The un-Examined Life |
|
Too Many Choices
A student in Psych 102
could not decide what to do.
Answer ‘C’ seemed the best
for each question on the test,
in which ‘A’ was “false” and ‘B’ “true”.
|
A Hard Test
A psychology examination
was in need of some elucidation.
The questions were curious,
the students, quite furious --
with themselves, for their procrastination.
|
Social Psychology |
|
Misunderstood
At college there once was a feller.
who was said to be quite a terror.
His professors were furious.
They perceived him injurious.
A clear fundamental attribution error.
|
Research Ethics
A researcher by name of Stan
came up with an ingenious plan
It caused quite a shock
for all men of good stock,
but on such studies there is now a ban.
|
Abnormal Psychology |
|
Personality Trait
“Personality,” the man said to wife,
“is something that you have your whole life.”
“So, you’ll always be submissive,”
he said, sounding dismissive,
just before being stabbed by her knife.
|
Under Attack
A vet whose friends call him Mack
was hit by a panic attack
He grasped his gun tight
and glared out at the night,
but this time he couldn’t shoot back.
|
Psychotherapy |
|
Sleeping on the Job
A patient by name of Ann Becky
was driving her analyst wacky.
She kept on believing
his words were deceiving.
All this as they lay in the sacky.
|
Existential Therapy
“Engage!” said Picard to his crew,
" 'cause that’s what we all have to do
to find in life meaning,
rather than just being
a part of the primordial stew.”

Minuchin

|
Race and Ethnicity |
|
Growing Pains
A woman of uncommon felicity
took a class on race and ethnicity.
She first felt dejected,
but then she reflected:
insight can be turned to activicity. |
Group Membership
There once was a man named Sebastian,
who studied an indigenous nation.
He learned how they talked,
and the peace pipe he smoked.
But the tribe had a small reservation |
In Jena
In Jena there once was a tree
where nooses one day came to be.
Blacks in town were furious.
They thought them injurious,
which the white folks just could not see. |
Group Relations
"Why can't we all get along?"
asked the girl without a clue or a song.
"We've been violated, that's why!"
came the sharp, Black reply,
"To get along, you gotta go along." |
Racial Politics
"Race is a social creation,"
the neo-liberal said to the nation.
"It's about time we decide
to put racial differences aside
and take race out of the equation.
Pardon me, I don't mean to be cynical,
but you do know that race is political.
It's not an accidental construction,
but a deliberate plan of destruction,
and to say less would be hypocritical. |
The N-Word
A friend of mine by name of Dan
loves saying the word starting with “N”.
I know about the history,
and to me, the big mystery
is why some folks can’t and he can.
Author's note: Though this limerick is intentionally vague to promote discussion, it is not my intention to legitimize the use of this word among the racial majority. To the contrary, much like the NAACP, I'd like to see it put to rest by all groups. |
