Training Program in Language Processing

Information for all trainees:

á       The Training Program in Language Processing at Illinois sponsors two predoctoral and two postdoctoral fellows for training in Language Processing research. The Training Program is funded by the National Institutes of Health.

á       Trainees typically come from Psychology, Linguistics or Educational Psychology backgrounds and are involved in the program in order to gain training in Language Processing research.

á       If you are interested in applying for the training program, please contact Sarah Brown-Schmidt for more information.

á       The Training Program sponsors a bi-weekly seminar series called the Language Processing Brown Bag (LPBB). It held at the Beckman Institute; see the Beckman calendar for upcoming events.

á       Benefits of participating in the program include a small amount of funds for travel to academic conferences and for training related expenses.

á       A key component of the training program is training in the ethical conduct of research. All trainees should be sure to:

o   Keep your Illinois IRB training up to date. Follow the instructions here.

o   Enroll in a class on ethical issues in research. Relevant courses include Dr. Brown-SchmidtÕs course on Professional and Ethical Issues (check here for course offerings), and Dr. HubertÕs course on the Ethical Practice of Statistics (listed as Psyc 484 for Spring 2014).

á       When you publish papers, give talks, etc., please acknowledge support from the training grant as follows:  T32-HD055272 from the National Institutes of Health.

 

Information for predoctoral trainees:

á       The Training Program involves research, coursework, and training in ethical/ professional issues. Predoctoral trainees can find out more about the requirements of the training program, and document their progress in the program using this template.

á       Predoctoral trainees are funded on the training grant for a period of one year, but completion of the training program is expected to take approximately three to four years.

Information for postdoctoral trainees:

á       As a postdoctoral fellow, taxes are not withheld from your paycheck. Find information about paying estimated taxes here.

á       Postdoctoral trainees are funded through the training grant for a period of two years.
