Need Personal Help?

If you are looking for psychiatric help or a diagnosis for yourself or a loved one, you can contact The National Hopeline Network at 1-800-442-HOPE. Your call will automatically be directed to a crisis center near you. We commend you for reaching out for help, but Dr. Diener is a researcher, not a licensed clinical psychologist, and cannot provide theraputic help, nor can he often be easily or immediately reached.

Note to Journalists

Before contacting Dr. Diener for an interview, please read a few of his papers. If you do not have access to these papers, feel free to contact his editorial assistant, Mr.Ruotian Wang.

Dr. Diener's research is at the basic scientific level. Thus, much of his work is technical and is therefore not readily translatable into "how to be happy." Dr. Diener is willing to discuss what he does know about happiness, but is unwilling to make conjectures about questions about which he does not have data.

If you are hoping to discuss questions of subjective well-being with Dr. Diener, please allow sufficient time to make arrangements. Last minute rush jobs are not greeted with enthusiasm.
